The West Springfield Police Department is adding a new officer to the streets, but this one has four legs! Meet Rado, our newest K-9; Rado a 15 month old German Shepherd. He has been narcotics trained and will have continued training for area searches, evidence recovery, and suspect apprehension. Additionally, congratulations to our newest K-9 Officer John McCarthy. Officer McCarthy has worked for the Department for 2 1/2 years and will now be our 2nd K-9 handler in West Springfield. ?
West Springfield is the newest town in Massachusetts to approve PACE financing for businesses - short for Property Assessed Clean Energy financing. This program, signed into law by Governor Charlie Baker in 2016, has just launched statewide through MassDevelopment, and West Springfield is the first town in Hampden County to sign off.

NATURAL GAS MAIN WORK BY COLUMBIA GAS IMPACTS TRAFFIC ON
ELM STREET IN WEST SPRINGFIELD
Columbia Gas of Massachusetts is working on a natural gas main project which will prevent a northbound turn from Elm Street into Westfield Street (Route 20 west) on Monday, March 26th from 9:am to 2pm. Detour signs will be visible. Traffic flowing on Elm Street will remain unaffected.
Parking Ban will begin tomorrow morning (3/13/18) at 7am; NO PARKING on any public road. Police will enforce through tickets and towing if necessary.
NO TRASH COLLECTION, treat tomorrow as a trash holiday. If you have Tuesday pickup your trash will instead be picked up Wednesday, Wednesday on Thursday and so on for the remainder of the week.
A decision on school will be made at 5am.

The Town of West Springfield, MA and the Rotary Club of West Springfield are proud to present the 2017 "West Side's Taste of the Valley", West Springfield’s annual weekend long gathering of local restaurants on the Park Street Town Common. This fun community event annually draws over 30,000 people from all over the Pioneer Valley to sample various dishes from a diverse mix of restaurants. Staffed by hundreds of volunteers from throughout the community, this is one of the few remaining restaurant “taste” events in Western Massachusetts.
One Book, One Community™
Students in Grades 1-4 will be participating in a reading program entitled One Book, One Community™. One Book One Community is a reading program that focuses community stakeholders and students on one book in supporting students excitement in the area of summer reading.
Each child received a copy of the award winning “Turtle In Paradise” for them to keep. The cost of this program was supported by the West Springfield Public Library and United Bank, West Springfield Park and Recreation, West Springfield Art Council Grant, Eastern States Exposition Grant and the following business:

In our community, the West Springfield Mayor’s Office, West Springfield Public Library, West Springfield Park and Recreation Department, West Springfield High School Drama program, West Springfield Record, and Red Thread Network all have a hand in this program.
The program launched with a Readers’ Theater performed by our WSHS Drama class and will culminate with a full production play of the book in the fall at WSHS.

Join us on May 29th for West Springfield's Annual Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony. Line the streets along Kings Highway, Elm Street, and Park Ave. while we pay tribute to the men and women who lost their lives while serving out country. The parade kicks off at 10:00 a.m.. A ceremony will begin at 11:15 a.m. on the Town Common. Several keynote speakers will be present including LTC. Toby Quirk and Massachusetts Department of Veterans' Services Secretary Francisco Urena. During the ceremony, Gold Star Mother, Tracy Taylor, will be awarded the Massachusetts Medal of Liberty.
Join our West Springfield Police, Fire, and First Responders as we become the first community in Massachusetts to raise the Honor and Sacrifice Flag.
