Town Hall, Senior Center and the Library are closed to the public until further notice.

The West Springfield Police Department and Fire Department lobbies are closed to the public for non-emergencies.

5-18-20 Website Update

COVID-19 Update as of May 28, 2020

As we navigate through these uncertain times together as a community, the Park and Recreation Department is working closely with Mayor Reichelt’s Office, the Public Health Department, the School Department, the Central Maintenance Department as well with our Police Department.  

In order to safeguard our community and slow the spread of COVID-19, we are making the following modifications in our usage of facilities, programs, and activity schedules. 

Summer Camp/Summer Programs

  • Registrations are Postponed  - We are awaiting specific guidelines from the Commonwealth & CDC.  More information will be released by June 8, 2020.

Mittineague Park 

  • At this time, you can still enjoy time outdoors at Mittineague Park for passive use such as walking, jogging, biking, or leisure time activities for individuals or families. 

  • The gates into Mittineague Park will remain closed until further notice for vehicle traffic. Parking is located off of Park Drive, or Fife Lane.  Additional parking lots will be open on Fife Lane (near the greenhouse)

  • Face Coverings and Masks: All visitors to parks and open space, as well as those participating in outdoor education programs should comply with COVID-19 Order 31: Order Requiring Face Coverings in Public Places Where Social Distancing is Not Possible. The order requires any person over the age of 2, whether indoors or outdoors, to wear a face covering or mask when they cannot maintain 6 feet of distance between themselves and others, unless they have a medical condition preventing them from doing so.

  • Group Size: No groups larger than 10 are allowed to gather. 

  • Pavilion reservations are suspended.

Athletic Fields/Playgrounds/Play Equipment

  • Athletic fields are CLOSED. Users should not engage in pick-up games, organized games, or tournaments.

  • All basketball courts are CLOSED

  • Skate Park at Cooks Playground is CLOSED.

  • All Town playgrounds and swings are CLOSED. Playgrounds Closed 2020

Special Events

  • Summer Concert Series - POSTPONED

Spring Sports

  • T-Ball/Baseball/Softball - CANCELLED

  • Lacrosse - CANCELLED

  • Torpedoes Swim - CANCELLED

  • Roots Spring Soccer - CANCELLED

Programs and Activities

  • UNICO Dances - May 29 & June Prom - CANCELLED

  • Aerobics/Yoga Outdoor Summer Session - CANCELLED

  • Altamont Town Museum Tours - POSTPONED

  • Garden Plots - OPEN following strict social distancing.

CONCERT 16: Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long

56 Annual Series of FREE Family Concerts

Due to the recent inclement weather and for the safety of our participants and their families, the 32nd Annual Christmas Carol Sing-A-Long will be held indoors on Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 6:00PM at the West Springfield Middle School. A FREE book of Christmas Carols will be distributed to all present.

The introduction of City Officials will begin at 6:00PM, hosted by Victoria Connor, Park & Recreation Department Director. Making their fifth appearance singing Holiday songs will be the Tatham Elementary School Chorus directed by Ms. Simone Tucker. 

The City of West Springfield sponsors the display of Christmas Lights and Trees on the Elm Street Common, which guests can take a look at for the rest of the season. Also continuing their tradition of providing decorations throughout the Town is the West Springfield Central Maintenance Department.
