Town Hall, Senior Center and the Library are closed to the public until further notice.

The West Springfield Police Department and Fire Department lobbies are closed to the public for non-emergencies.

COVID-19 Update as of May 18, 2020

As we navigate through these uncertain times together as a community, the Park and Recreation Department is working closely with Mayor Reichelt’s Office, the Public Health Department, the School Department, the Central Maintenance Department as well with our Police Department.  

In order to safeguard our community and slow the spread of COVID-19, we are making the following modifications in our usage of facilities, programs, and activity schedules. 

Summer Camp/Summer Programs

  • Registrations are Postponed  - We are awaiting specific guidelines from the Commonwealth & CDC.  More information will be released by June 8, 2020.

Mittineague Park 

  • At this time, you can still enjoy time outdoors at Mittineague Park for passive use such as walking, jogging, biking, or leisure time activities for individuals or families. 

  • The gates into Mittineague Park will remain closed until further notice for vehicle traffic. Parking is located off of Park Drive, or Fife Lane.  Additional parking lots will be open on Fife Lane (near the greenhouse)

  • Face Coverings and Masks: All visitors to parks and open space, as well as those participating in outdoor education programs should comply with COVID-19 Order 31: Order Requiring Face Coverings in Public Places Where Social Distancing is Not Possible. The order requires any person over the age of 2, whether indoors or outdoors, to wear a face covering or mask when they cannot maintain 6 feet of distance between themselves and others, unless they have a medical condition preventing them from doing so.

  • Group Size: No groups larger than 10 are allowed to gather. 

  • Pavilion reservations are suspended.

Athletic Fields/Playgrounds/Play Equipment

  • Athletic fields are CLOSED. Users should not engage in pick-up games, organized games, or tournaments.

  • All basketball courts are CLOSED

  • Skate Park at Cooks Playground is CLOSED.

  • All Town playgrounds and swings are CLOSED. Playgrounds Closed 2020

Special Events

  • Summer Concert Series - POSTPONED

Spring Sports

  • T-Ball/Baseball/Softball - CANCELLED

  • Lacrosse - CANCELLED

  • Torpedoes Swim - CANCELLED

Programs and Activities

  • UNICO Dances - May 29 & June Prom - CANCELLED

  • Aerobics/Yoga Outdoor Summer Session - CANCELLED

  • Altamont Town Museum Tours - POSTPONED

  • Garden Plots - OPEN following strict social distancing.

Rotary Club's Donut Dash 2019

I'ts time again for the Rotary Club's Annual Donut Dash! 

"It's gonna be a walk in the park... sort of!  Join us on Sunday, October 13th, at 10am for donut dash, the West Springfield Rotary Club's annual 5K.  Run, walk, or hike this challenging course over roads and trails through beautiful Mittineague Park.  Run or walk if you can, or come cheer for your favorite person or team if you can't!
Following the race, apple cider and donuts, provided by Donut Dip, will be served, as well as some post race individual and team prizes.
Register by October 10th and individual registration is just $25; teams up to six people just $100.  Afterwards individuals are $30; teams are $120.  Entrants welcome right up to the start of the race.
Parking is at Altamont Avenue (off Westfield Street) and registration is from 9am-10am at the Unico Building right next door.  The race begins at 10am, and will start and finish at the Unico Building.
All proceeds will be used to fund local community organizations and the humanitarian efforts of Rotary International."
