COVID in Parks

To our West Springfield families,

We all recognize that we are in unprecedented times. Our public health officials and our local officials are working around the clock to update the community on the best practices on how to stay safe and keep our community healthy.  But we can’t beat this alone! We need everyone’s help.

Let’s face it, it’s spring, the weather is getting warmer and we all want to go outdoors and enjoy our parks and playgrounds.  We highly recommend spending time outdoors, exploring our parks, playgrounds, and open spaces.

We know many parents are wondering how much time their kids can socialize with friends during school closures. The point of the closure is to slow the possible spread of the virus Coronavirus, which means social distancing and avoiding public places.

Parents, we need your help!  If kids are hanging out during this closure, it does not help slow the possible spread.  The virus can live on surfaces for days, so it’s important to avoid public spaces like basketball courts, skate parks, and playgrounds.  As public officials, we are doing our part by informing, educating and taken measures to deter children from these settings. But we need parents to help.  Please do your part so that we get through this sooner than later!

Thanks for your cooperation!!
