Lifeguard Certification Courses

The West Springfield Park & Recreation Department is offering a Lifeguard Certification Course! 

Learn CPR, First Aid, AED and Water Rescue Skills

FULL attendance & participation in all sessions is required for all candidates who successfully pass the Pre-Course Swim Skills Test*

*Pre-Course Swim Skills Test will be held Friday, May 10, 2024 from 6:00PM - 8:00PM at West Springfield High School's Sady Pool. 

Be prepared to pass the following: 

  • Swim 300 yards (12 lengths of a 25 yard pool - swim googles can be worn)
  • Surface dive to retrieve a 10lb object & return to the surface
  • 2 minute tread without stopping, using your legs only

Portions of this course will also be taught online and must be completed by May 31st

Mandatory In-Person Dates: Saturday, June 1, 2024, Saturday, June 8, 2024 AND Sunday, June 9, 2024

Times: 2:30PM - 8:30PM

Location: West Springfield High School Sady Pool

Fee: **$300.00 West Springfield Residents, **$350.00 Non-Residents

**($250 WS Resident/Non-Resident Fee will be reimbursed if a participant is employed as a lifeguard by the W.S. Park & Recreation Department for a minimum of 150 hours during Summer 2024)

Sign up early! Maximum number of participants is 20 for the course. Participants MUST be 15 years old by June 9, 2024.

Online registration is the fastest way to register. Register by March 29th to ensure a spot on a team!

  • Click here to reach our Online Registration Site
  • Log in with your credentials. Contact the Park & Recreation Office (parkandrec@tows.org) in order to verify your username and password or to get help setting up an account.
  • Choose "Baseball/Softball Leagues", pick the activity you are interested in, add to cart, and check out. 
  • Continue to the payment screen. This will allow you to use a credit/debit card to pay for your programs. 
  • Check your email! Approximately 1 week prior to the start of the program, your child's coach will contact you via phone with detailed information.

 

IN-PERSON:

Another option for registration is bringing your paperwork and payment (cash/check ONLY) into the Town Hall. Visit the Park & Recreation Office Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:00AM - 4:30PM. A staff member will assist you. Register by March 29th to ensure a spot on a team!

  • Complete a 2024 Baseball, Softball & T-Ball Registration Form(PDF, 477KB)

  • Make checks payable to "Town of West Springfield" or pay in cash. (CASH/CHECK ONLY!)

  • Check your email! The Park & Recreation Office will email you your registration confirmation. Approximately 1 week prior to the start of the program,  your child's coach will contact you via phone with detailed information.

Using the White Drop Box located on the median outside of the Municipal Office Building is another option for Registration. Register by March 29th to ensure a spot on a team!

  • Complete a 2024 Baseball, Softball & T-Ball Registration Form(PDF, 477KB)
  • Make checks payable to "Town of West Springfield"
  • Write "Park and Recreation Department" on the front of a blank envelope
  • Place in the White Drop Box located outside of the Municipal Office Building at 26 Central St. 
  • Check your email! The Park & Recreation Office will email you your registration confirmation. Approximately 1 week prior to the start of the program,  your child's coach will contact you via phone with detailed information.

Already have your certification and just need to be re-certified? 

The West Springfield Park & Recreation Department will offer a Lifeguard Re-Certification class for Park & Recreation returning staff members. An abbreviated Lifeguarding course that briefly reviews course information and allows practice of skills and knowledge before testing. Current certification in Red Cross Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid is required to participate in the review course. Students who successfully complete this course will receive a certificate which is valid for 2 years.

Mandatory In-Person Dates: Saturday, May 4, 2024 AND Sunday, May 5, 2024

Times: 3:00pm-7:00pm

Location: Sady Pool, West Springfield Senior High School

Fee: **$100.00 West Springfield Residents ~ **$150.00 Non-Residents
