The West Springfield Park & Recreation Department is offering a Lifeguard Certification Course

Learn CPR, First Aid, AED and Water Rescue Skills

FULL attendance & participation in all sessions is required for all candidates who successfully pass the Pre-Course Swim Skills Test*

*Pre-Course Swim Skills Test will be held SUNDAY, March 29, 2026 from 4:30PM - 6:30PM at West Springfield High School's Sady Pool. 

Be prepared to pass the following: 

  • Complete a swim-tread-swim sequence without stopping to rest (Swim 150 yards (6 lengths of a 25 yd pool), tread water using only legs for 2 minutes, swim 50 yards (2 lengths of a 25 yd pool).  Swim goggles can be worn.)

  • Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds ( Swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 7 – 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on the back to return to the starting point, holding the object at the surface with both hands and keeping the face out at or near the surface.  Swim goggles CANNOT be worn.)

Portions of this course will also be taught online and must be completed by April 15th

Location: West Springfield High School Sady Pool

Fee: **$300.00 West Springfield Residents, **$350.00 Non-Residents

**($250 WS Resident/Non-Resident Fee will be reimbursed if a participant is employed as a lifeguard by the W.S. Park & Recreation Department for a minimum of 150 hours during Summer 2026)

Online registration is the fastest way to register.

  • Click here to reach our Online Registration Site
  • Log in with your credentials. Contact the Park & Recreation Office (parkandrec@tows.org) in order to verify your username and password or to get help setting up an account.
  • Choose "Lifeguard Course", pick the activity you are interested in, add to cart, and check out. 
  • Continue to the payment screen. This will allow you to use a credit/debit card to pay for your programs. 
  • Check your email! The Park & Recreation Office will email you your registration confirmation.
  • Approximately 2 weeks prior to the start of the course, our instructor will email you a link for the on-line portion of the course

 

IN-PERSON:

In-Person

Another option for registration is bringing your paperwork and payment (cash/check ONLY) into the Town Hall. Visit the Park & Recreation Office Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:00AM - 4:30PM. A staff member will assist you.
