Parking and Circulation Improvements at Fausey Elementary School

West Springfield, MA: The Town of West Springfield is making significant improvements to parking and traffic circulation at Fausey Elementary School to enhance safety and efficiency for students, families, and staff.
The Town’s Department of Public Works (DPW) has started work to add 21 new parking spaces around the island in front of the school. These spaces will replace the current parking spots along Fausey Drive. In their place, the area along the roadway will become a new dedicated student pick-up and drop-off zone.
This new setup will give families a safer and more convenient place to drop off or pick up their children. The area has a sidewalk that leads straight to the school, which will help keep students safe as they walk into the building. This change is designed to improve safety for students by separating pedestrian and vehicle traffic, while also reducing congestion during arrival and dismissal times. With a dedicated drop-off/pick-up area, cars will have a safer and more organized space to pull in and out, helping traffic flow more smoothly around the school.
The work is being performed in-house by the DPW and is expected to be completed by the end of the month. Once the changes are ready to be implemented, the School Department will provide parents and guardians with detailed information about the new traffic patterns.
Mayor Will Reichelt praised the project, saying: “This is a great example of our DPW using creative thinking to come up with a solution to a problem families and staff have been dealing with. By redesigning the parking and pick-up areas, they’re making Fausey safer for our students and less stressful for parents at drop-off and pick-up.”
The Town looks forward to these improvements making a positive difference for the Fausey school community.
