West Springfield, MA:  On Friday, September 12, the Eastern States Exposition will kick off its seventeen-day run of the Big E Fair, concluding on Sunday, September 28. Celebrating its 109th year on Memorial Avenue in West Springfield, the Big E is recognized as the fifth largest fair in North America and draws more than one million visitors each year. The event provides a major economic boost to the community, attracting guests from across the region and beyond.

In anticipation of increased traffic during the fair, the Town of West Springfield will once again implement temporary traffic measures along the Memorial Avenue corridor from Friday, September 12 through Sunday, September 28, 2025. These measures are designed to improve traffic flow and safety during the event. A map outlining the changes is attached for reference.(PDF, 5MB)

Although ongoing roadway construction in the area will be paused during the fair, drivers should remain alert and use caution, as construction zones will still be present. Over the past several years, these temporary measures have helped reduce congestion; however, heavy traffic is still expected, especially on weekends and during evening hours. Residents who need to travel in the Memorial Avenue or Central Business District areas are encouraged to plan trips for weekday daylight hours or before 10:00 a.m. on weekends whenever possible.

Many businesses along Memorial Avenue remain open throughout the Big E, and the Town urges residents and visitors to continue to support these local establishments during the fair.

Founded in 1916 by Joshua Brooks, the Big E has grown from its agricultural roots to feature a wide range of local and international vendors, diverse food and beverage offerings, rides, and entertainment. All West Springfield Public School students will receive free admission to the fair for “West Springfield Day” on Monday, September 15.
