West Springfield, MA: The Town of West Springfield recently partnered with FlashVote to survey residents on traffic conditions and potential improvements. With nearly 400 participants, the survey highlighted both the challenges and the opportunities the community sees in making local roads safer and more efficient.

Overall, residents reported a balanced view of traffic flow, with 43 percent expressing satisfaction with how vehicles move through Town. One clear success was the Elm Street Roundabout, which received overwhelming support: nearly 80 percent of respondents said traffic flow is now better, and almost 60 percent reported it is “a lot better” than before.

When asked about priorities for traffic calming and safety, residents showed strong support for measures that improve neighborhood safety and walkability. Speed bumps, traffic circles, flashing speed limit signs, expanded sidewalks and bike lanes, and automated speed enforcement all received substantial support. At the same time, the survey confirmed that speeding in residential neighborhoods is the most common concern, cited by nearly two-thirds of participants, followed by congestion and poor timing of traffic lights.

“These results give us a clear message from our residents,” said Mayor Will Reichelt. “People want safer streets, smoother flow, and practical solutions that improve daily life. We’re encouraged to see broad support for measures like roundabouts, speed control, and better signage, and we’ll use this feedback to guide upcoming traffic planning.”

The survey, conducted August 6 through 8, 2025, had 383 participants. Results were shared directly with Town officials and will be used to help shape responsive, community-driven transportation policies.
