Annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA — On behalf of the Harrington family, the Town of West Springfield invites community members, neighbors, and local organizations to gather on Friday, September 11, 2026, to honor the victims, families, and heroes of September 11, 2001. The annual Remembrance Ceremony pays tribute to the national tragedy and remembers local native Melissa Harrington-Hughes along with all who lost their lives.

The public is invited to gather at 8:30 a.m. on the West Springfield Town Common at the Eternal Flame Memorial, located on Park Avenue, West Springfield, MA 01089.

At 8:46 a.m. EDT, attendees will observe a moment of silence to mark the exact moment the first plane struck the World Trade Center, reflecting on the enduring importance of this day.

  • Invocation: Pastor Roger Dennis

  • National Anthem: Ethel Lee

  • VFW Honor Guard: 21 Gun Salute

  • Taps: Steve White

  • Bagpipe Tribute: Amazing Grace

  • Remarks: West Springfield Veteran Service Officer Marcella Massey

  • Remarks: West Springfield Police Captain Nolan Ryan & Fire Chief CJ Bartone

  • Bagpipe Tribute: Danny Boy

  • Keynote Address: Vietnam Veteran Richard Cunningham

  • Community Remarks: Mayor William Reichelt & Bob Harrington

  • Musical Performance: God Bless America sung by Ethel Lee

  • Benediction: Pastor Roger Dennis

  • Closing: Thank You & Patriotic Medley performed by the West Springfield High School Band

Residents and businesses are encouraged to fly the American flag at half-staff throughout the day to honor all victims and first responders, reinforcing national unity and respect.
