Town-Wide Cross Connection Control Surveys

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA — The Town of West Springfield Department of Public Works (DPW) Water Division has officially contracted with Water Safety Services, a regional firm specializing in cross connection control, to conduct site surveys across all non-residential properties within the town starting in October 2026.
A Cross Connection Control Program is a federally and state-mandated safe drinking water initiative required for all public water suppliers. Under regulations set by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) and federal safe drinking water standards, the program prevents backflow and ensures that the town's public water supply remains pure, clean, and safe for all users.
Beginning in October 2026, authorized surveyors from Water Safety Services will visit commercial and non-residential properties throughout the West Springfield water system. Property owners and facility managers will need to grant surveyors brief access to water utility rooms, mechanical spaces, and relevant plumbing areas. Each survey is designed to be quick, efficient, and minimally intrusive to daily business operations.
"Maintaining the integrity and safety of our municipal drinking water is our top priority," said representatives of the West Springfield Water Division. "Partnering with Water Safety Services allows us to meet key state and federal compliance requirements while protecting our public water system from potential contamination sources."
