WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — The Town of West Springfield is advising residents, businesses, and visitors that IRONMAN 70.3 Western Massachusetts will take place throughout the region from Friday, June 5 through Sunday, June 7, 2026, bringing athletes, families, spectators, and event staff to communities across Western Massachusetts, including West Springfield. The event’s primary race day is Sunday, June 7, when participants will complete a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike course, and a 13.1-mile run, with race operations centered in Springfield at the MassMutual Center, Riverfront Park, and surrounding downtown areas.
As a host community along the bike route, West Springfield will experience temporary traffic impacts on Sunday morning and into the early afternoon. Residents are strongly encouraged to plan ahead, allow additional travel time, and use alternate routes whenever possible while race participants travel through town.
Race weekend activities will begin on Friday, June 5, with athlete check-in, timing chip pick-up, IRONMAN Village operations, and athlete briefings at the MassMutual Center. Those activities continue on Saturday, June 6, along with mandatory bike check-in and additional race preparation events leading into Sunday morning’s 6:00 a.m. race start.
The weekend will also feature the 2026 Dowd Insurance IRONKIDS Western Massachusetts race on Saturday, June 6, at 1:00 p.m. at Springfield Riverfront Park. The IRONKIDS event includes a 1-mile race for ages 5 to 17, a half-mile race for ages 3 to 8, and a Toddler Trot for ages 1 to 3, offering a family-friendly way for younger participants to be part of race weekend.
