WEST SPRINGFIELD CHOOSES NEW SUPPLIER FOR ENERGY PROGRAM AND REDUCES RATE

West Springfield, MA:  The Town of West Springfield has signed a thirty-six month contract with a new electricity supplier, First Point Power. Beginning with the December 2023 meter reads, the West Springfield Community Choice Power Supply Program will have a new rate of $0.13412 per kWh.

For West Springfield residents and businesses who are enrolled in the Town’s program, the current rate of $0.19868 per kWh will expire with the December 2023 meter reads and the new rate of $0.13412 per kWh will take effect. This represents an average anticipated decrease of $39 per month on the supply side of the bill given average usage of 600 kWh. In addition, participants are expected to see continued savings compared to Eversource for the months of January 2024 through July 2024.* Eversource’s summer Residential Basic Service rate of $0.14854 per kWh will change on January 1, 2024 and should be known in late-November. Historically, Eversource’s winter rates have been higher than their summer rates.

“We are excited to announce a 32% drop in the program’s rate,” said Mayor William Reichelt. “In addition, the program locks in rates for the next three years which will insulate ratepayers from market fluctuations.”

West Springfield launched its electricity program in September 2019 in an effort to develop an energy program that would be stable and affordable. From inception through June 2023, the Program has saved residents and small businesses over $5.8 million in electricity costs as compared to Eversource Basic Service.

It is important to note that no action will be required by individual consumers. This change will be seen on the January 2024 bills. All accounts currently enrolled in the Program will see the new rate and First Point Power printed under the “Supplier Services” section of their monthly bill.

To join the Town’s Program, you may visit colonialpowergroup.com/west-springfield and click the OPT-IN button, then fill out and submit the OPT-IN Form. You should have your Eversource bill handy in order to provide some required information. Please submit your enrollment request a minimum of two weeks before your December 2023 meter read (date varies by account) to OPT-IN prior to the rate change. Enrollments can only be processed on meter reads so it may take one or two billing cycles before taking effect.

The West Springfield Community Choice Power Supply Program has no fees or charges. However, anyone switching from a contract with a third-party supplier may be subject to penalties or early termination fees charged by that supplier. Ratepayers should verify terms before switching.

Basic Service rates change twice a year or more, depending on rate class. As a result, the aggregation rate may not always be lower than the Basic Service rate. The goal of the aggregation is to deliver savings over the life of the program against Eversource Basic Service. However, such savings and future savings cannot be guaranteed.

Eversource customers who meet certain means criteria can qualify to receive a discount on their electric bills. To learn more, please visit eversource.com/content/residential/account-billing/payment-assistance/discount-rate.
