Birnie Avenue Sidewalk Extension Project
This project comprises multiple phases, with the final intent being to install sidewalks along the entirety of Birnie Avenue, switching from the western side of the road to the eastern. This project is meant to bring the street into compliance with MassDOT’s Complete Streets Funding Program, as well as to solve known speeding issues on the road.
The first phase of the project includes Birnie Avenue from Morgan Road to Kelly Drive. This will connect the network of existing sidewalks on Gregory Lane, Carriage Lane, Valley View Circle, Jeffrey Lane, Abigail Lane, Hemlock Hill Road, Green Meadow Lane, and Kelly Drive to sidewalks on Morgan Road. The key features of this first phase include the addition of raised crosswalks along the road with flashing signs to allow crossings. On top of sidewalks, construction notes for this project also include ADA curb ramps with high visibility crosswalks on one side of Birnie Avenue from Morgan Road to Jeffrey Lane.
The anticipated start date is Spring/Summer of 2026
