West Springfield Bikeway and Boat Launch

West Springfield Connecticut River Walk and Bikeway

The Pioneer Valley Planning Commission has put together the Connecticut River Walk and Bikeway Plan, a pathway located on both sides of the Connecticut River. Parts of West Springfield are located within this area, and therefore the town has implemented ways to make the pathway safe and accessible to all. General Information:

  • 10 ft. wide paved path for walking and biking
  • West Springfield section = 1.5 miles long
  • Follows the CT River and the West Springfield levee system
  • Has 2 access points in West Springfield
  • Has a scenic overlook of the CT River with benches
  • 4 emergency call boxes(PDF, 7MB) are located along the trail
  • The linear park system spans the communities of Agawam, Springfield, West Springfield, Holyoke, and Chicopee.

Access Points:

  1. Southern Access Point: Located at Tom's Launch, where there is an off-street parking area. Access to this lot is through the Pride Gas Station/Convenience Store located at 757 Riverdale St. (at the signalized intersection of Riverdale (Route 5) and Elm St.
  2. Northern Access Point: Located at the intersection of Wayside Avenue and Ashley Avenue where there is an off-street parking area.

Thomas A. Lagodich Riverfront Park Canoe and Kayak Launch

Located along the bikepath/walkway, the Thomas A. Lagodich Riverfront Park Canoe and Kayak Launch, also known as Tom's Launch, leads down to the Connecticut River from the Pride Gas Station/Convenience Store located at 757 Riverdale St.

General Information:

  • A clear space set up for individuals to get on the Connecticut River by canoe/kayak
  • Vehicles can drive down to the launch, but must park in the designated parking area next to the Pride Gas Station
  • Open to the public from 8 a.m. to dusk seven days a week
  • Named after Building Commissioner Thomas Lagodich, who also served on the School Committee and the Facilities and Planning Committee before passing away in 2010 from leukemia.
  • The launch is the city's only access to the river
