Birnie Avenue and Green Meadow Lane Culvert Replacement Project

This project involves the replacement of the existing 18-inch diameter reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) culvert under Birnie Avenue and the 10-inch diameter RCP culvert under Green Meadow Lane that convey an unnamed intermittent stream. They will be replaced with 18-inch and 12-inch diameter high density polyethylene (HDPE) culverts, respectively. The existing culverts are undersized, contribute to nuisance flooding upstream and display signs of structural deterioration due to the age of the materials. These replacements balance hydraulic design requirements with considerations for right-of-way and wetland impacts, and offer an opportunity to improve stream continuity and resiliency at these crossings.
